World COPD Day, November 21
The Global Initiative for Chronic Ob- structive Lung Disease – otherwise known as GOLD – is an organization striving to improve the diagnosis, prevention and management of COPD around the world. Visit their web site at www.goldcopd.org to learn of their recommendations on how to treat your lung problems. Their annual conferences are attended by pulmonolo- gy, family medicine, and internal medi- cine physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, and other health care professionals to pool their knowledge to improve your daily living.
GOLD is sponsoring World COPD Day on November 21, 2018. This day is a glob- al effort to boost people’s understanding of COPD and advocate for better care for people. It is annually held the third Wednes- day of November.
Get together with your Better Breather support group or friends at pulmonary rehabilitation to organize an event to bring awareness of COPD to your community. Becoming your own advocate is the greatest asset you will have.
You could make a lip sync video about your life with lung disease or visit the office of your elected officials and tell them you would appreciate their support. Set up a display in a public place and encourage people to recognize the early symptoms they may be having.
You just might have some fun in the process!
